Community Services Pathway

International students wishing to study the Community Services Pathway must enter at Certificate IV level.  At this level of study it is expected that you study for a minimum of 20 hours of study per week (15 hours face to face classroom based study, two days attendance from 9:30am to 4:30pm and 5 hours self-paced study) including, but not limited to homework, assessment tasks and individual research.

Entry Requirements:

There are no AQF Pre Requisites for this qualification.

AGB Training requires the applicant to successfully complete

  • Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment
  • Pre-Training Review
  • Enrolment Application Form

Students are required to have a minimum Year 10 English score or for international students a minimum 5.5 International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score.  Student must be 18 years or over.

Upon successful completion, students will have gained the knowledge and skills required to apply for further studies in either CHC62015 Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management, or pathway to second year entry into Charles Sturt University’s undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Social Work, via online studies or in Australia on campus at Wagga Wagga or Port Macquarie, NSW. This qualification reflects the role of community service workers who design and deliver person-centered services to individuals and/or groups. Workers may provide support, advocacy or interventions to individual clients, groups or communities across a range of services. At this level, workers may be autonomous with limited responsibility within established parameters and may be required to supervise and lead other workers in projects or teams. Work may take place in a range of community service, case work or case management contexts.

Possible occupation titles relating to this qualification: Case Worker, Outreach Officer, Health Education Officer, Community Services Worker, Community Support Worker, Domestic Violence Worker

This qualification reflects the roles of community services, case management and social housing workers involved in the managing, co-ordinating and/or delivering of person centered services to individuals, groups and communities. At this level, workers have specialised skills in community services and work autonomously under broad directions from senior management. Workers are usually providing direct support to individuals or groups of individuals. Workers may also have responsibility for the supervision of other workers and volunteers and/or case management; program coordination or the development of new business opportunities.

Practical placement: To achieve this qualification, the candidate must have completed at least 100 hours of work as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency.

This qualification reflects the role of workers who are middle managers or managers across a range of community sector organisations. These people work independently and report to executive management, directors or boards of management. They undertake a range of functions requiring the application of knowledge and skills to achieve results in line with the organisation’s goals and strategic directions. At this level, workers have responsibility for planning and monitoring service delivery, recruitment and performance management of other paid or unpaid workers, managing risk and contributing to continuous improvement within the scope of their specific role. This may include management of a specific programs or project, or broader management of a community-based organisation, early childhood education service, not-for-profit organisation or community centre.

 Possible occupation titles relating to this qualification: Centre Manager Coordinator (large organisation), Community Care Manager (small agency/service), Community Development Manager, Program Area Manager, Community Education Manager, Volunteer Program Manager
