Alcohol and Other Drugs Pathway

International students wishing to study the Alcohol and Other Drugs Community Services Pathway must enter at Certificate IV level.  At this level of study it is expected that you study for a minimum of 20 hours of study per week (15 hours face to face classroom based study, two days attendance from 9:00am to 5:00pm and 5 hours self-paced study) including, but not limited to homework, assessment tasks, individual research and online activities.

Entry Requirements:

There are no AQF Pre Requisites for this qualification.

AGB Training requires the applicant to successfully complete

  • Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment
  • Pre-Training Review
  • Enrolment Application Form

Students are required to have a minimum 5.5 International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score.  Student must be 18 years or over.

Upon successful completion, students will have gained the knowledge and skills required to apply for further studies in either CHC62015 Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management, or pathway to second year entry into Charles Sturt University’s undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Social Work, via online studies or in Australia on campus at Wagga Wagga or Port Macquarie, NSW. This qualification reflects the role of entry level workers who provide services and interventions to clients with alcohol and other drugs issues and/or implement health promotion and community interventions. Work is undertaken in contexts such as community based organisations, withdrawal services, residential rehabilitation services and outreach services under the guidance of other practitioners and professionals, with limited responsibility and within established parameters.

Possible occupation titles relating to this qualification: Case Worker, Community Support Worker, Outreach Worker, Detoxification Worker, Drug and Alcohol Worker

This qualification reflects the role of workers who work under broad supervision and guidance and provide services to clients with alcohol and other drugs issues. They can provide counselling, referral and promotion services. These workers require high level specialist knowledge, skills and competencies especially in regard to laws affecting clients, the range of services available to them and health issues related to alcohol and drugs use and misuse.

This qualification reflects the role of workers who are middle managers or managers across a range of community sector organisations. These people work independently and report to executive management, directors or boards of management. They undertake a range of functions requiring the application of knowledge and skills to achieve results in line with the organisation’s goals and strategic directions. At this level, workers have responsibility for planning and monitoring service delivery, recruitment and performance management of other paid or unpaid workers, managing risk and contributing to continuous improvement within the scope of their specific role. This may include management of a specific programs or project, or broader management of a community-based organisation, early childhood education service, not-for-profit organisation or community centre.

 Possible occupation titles relating to this qualification: Centre Manager Coordinator (large organisation), Community Care Manager (small agency/service), Community Development Manager, Program Area Manager, Community Education Manager, Volunteer Program Manager
